NBI Director Atty Magtanggol B Gatdula, graced the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony of PNP PRO 4A (CALABARZON) as Guest of Honor and Speaker at Camp Vicente Lim Calamba, Laguna on April 25, 2011. The visit is part of the Distinguished Visitors Program hosted by the Regional Comptrollership Division headed by PSSUPT RODOLFO S AZURIN JR, Gatdula’s former junior officer in the defunct PAOCTF.

In this keynote speech, Atty. Gatdula, who incidentally grew up in Calamba City, stressed that the NBI and the PNP are partners in anti-crime operations. He added that many of his projects in the NBI are similar to his projects in the PNP before he retired in 2010. In particular, he highlighted the PNP Transformation Program that he is using as a template in the “transformation” of the NBI.

To cope up with the rapid onset of technology, Atty. Gatdula said that he strengthened the Computer Crimes Unit of the NBI just like the PNP had done in creating the Directorate for Information and Communications Technology Management, where he was appointed as its first Director. As DICTM Director, Atty. Gatdula proudly recalled that he was the author of the ICT Road Map of the PNP.

Before he ended his speech, Atty. Gatdula encouraged PNP personnel to spread the word to their friends and relatives that the NBI is recruiting young blood lawyers and CPAs to lower the average age of agents that he said is now 50. For retiring senior officers, Atty. Gatdula also invited them to be his consultants in the Bureau as he believes that their long experience in the PNP will be invaluable to the NBI. Atty. Gatdula himself is a retired PNP General with 34 years of military and police service. He is a member of PMA Magilas Class of 1976.

Afterwards, Atty. Gatdula received from the Regional Director, PRO-CALABARZON, a plaque of appreciation and a meter-long “Balisong” as memento.// Arlene P. Mariposque
