A public hearing is set on April 26 for a proposed ordinance entitled “A PROPOSED ORDINANCE LIMITING FERTILIZER GRANTS, SUBSIDIES, ETC. TO PURELY ORGANIC FERTILIZERS, AND LIMITING AUTHORIZED SUPPLIERS THEREFORE TO AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES AND SIMILAR ENTITIES” authored by Councilor Christian Niño S. Lajara.
Grants and subsidies are regularly given to local farmers and farming communities as basic agricultural service. By limiting the grants to organic fertilizer this will better promote organic agriculture, which has benefits such as: increasingly enrich the fertility of the soil, improve farm productivity, reduce pollution and destruction of the environment, and protect the health of farmers, consumers and general public. This is in consonance with the existing “Organic Agriculture Act of 2010” (RA 10068).
All concerned parties and the public as well are invited to the public hearing of this proposed ordinance on April 26, 2011, 9AM at the SP Function Room, New City Hall Building, Barangay Real, Calamba City.
