“Music is experiential.” These are the words from Harmonya’s Musical Director, Ms. Angelica Dayao which became the inspiration for Harmonya’s second concert. According to Ms. Dayao, music will always be a part of our everyday lives, from lovers’ theme songs to cultural traditions. Harmonya’s second concert aims to celebrate music in a way that their audience will also experience.

Harmonya: The String Ensemble of UPLB will present “SeLeBrasyon: Ang Paghahabi ng Kwerdas ng Buhay” as a part of the 1st Southern Tagalog Arts Festival on Feb. 9, 10 and 11 at DL Umali Auditorium.

Harmonya wanted to follow the success of their 1st concert entitled “Harmonya in Concert” which was staged at NCAS Auditorium back in February 2010. Maryfaith Rayos, Stage Manager of SeLeBrasyon, said that this year’s concert is bigger, from the photo shoot, the preparations and the venue. The concert is composed of five parts: Lahi, Impluwensya, Pag-ibig, Pagkatao and Komunidad. Ms. Rayos said that one of the highlights of the concert is the performance of two original compositions by some members of Harmonya.

When asked about the preparations, Ms. Rayos said that the last two weeks before the concert have brought a lot of pressure. The rehearsals, which are from 7pm to 10pm, have also given the members less time for their academics. But according to Ms. Rayos, listening to Harmonya during the rehearsals eases their worries, and the family-like atmosphere also helps. Each member of Harmonya is committed to the success of SeLeBrasyon and the passion for music is the inspiration that drives them.

SeLeBrasyon is in cooperation with Tanghal Performative Arts, the Office of Initiative for Culture and Arts and The Rhetoricians. Ticket prices are 85php for the 3pm show, 95php for the 7pm show (UP students) and 120php for non UP (both 3pm and 7pm shows).---By Ma. Jestine Mendoza
