Camp Paciano Rizal, Sta. Cruz Laguna--Police on Thursday said they arrested three of the five suspected drug dealers, who had attempted to escape following a bungled shabu buy bust operation in Calamba City Laguna.
In a phone interview, city police chief Supt. Joel Pernito named one of the suspects as Frederick Marudo, who was arrested after being wounded and left by his companions in Cabrini hospital in Sto Tomas town in Batangas.
Marudo was among the five suspected drug dealers, based in Batangas province, that were targets of a buy bust operation set up by members of the police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF),in Barangay Tulo Calamba City at around 4 pm The other day.
Sensing an entrapment operation, the suspects escaped onboard a Nissan Xtrail and shot it out with the authorities. The gunfight resulted in a brief highway chase until they reached Silangan exit of the South Luzon Expressway.
AIDSOTF sought the assistance of the local police in Calamba City to conduct the follow up operations.
"(Marudo) was hit in the head and body (during the shootout). His companions left him in the hospital, where they also abandoned the vehicle," said Pernito.
Authorities later in the evening arrested two other fleeing suspects, whose names were still unavailable, in Barangay Tulo; while follow up operations continued to track down two other suspects.
Pernito said, Marudo Yesterday was turned over to Sto Tomas police station, where he was facing other charges for illegal drugs and murder. Police records also showed that he was the 8th most wanted person by authorities in Batangas. The two other arrested suspects were under police investigation.// Submitted by Arlene P. Mariposque
