DTI IV-A brings “Diskuwento Caravan” to Calamba

CALAMBA CITY, June 2 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Calabarzon Regional Office headed by regional director Marilou Quinco-Toledo, in cooperation with the city government of Calamba led by mayor Joaquin Chipeco, organizes the Diskwento Caravan to be held on June 12, 2011, at the Calamba Town Plaza in Poblacion, Calamba City, Laguna.

The Diskwento Caravan intends to bring basic and prime commodities to consumers at reduced prices, thus DTI assembled selected manufacturers and traders to sell products at discounted/promotional prices.

Participating manufacturers and traders include the National Food Authority (iron-fortified rice), Minola Refining Corporation (cooking oil), San Miguel Corporation (Purefoods hotdog/ready-to-cook products, San Mig Coffee, Magnolia beverages and juice drinks), The Generics Pharmacy (drugs/medicines), Silver Swan food sauces and condiments, Footstep (footwear), Torch Research Resources (books & educational references), Crystalline Purified Drinking Water, Vernie and Connie's Gift Shoppe (school supplies, uniform and bags), Fortune Bakeshop (breads and pastries), Dolux Bleach, Select soy sauce & condiments, Gardenia (bread), and Batangas Prime Beef (beef/processed beef products).

At the caravan, micro and small enterprises will also showcase a mini-trade fair featuring fish fillet/ready-to-cook processed pangasius products by FSAP); health and wellness products of Kutitap Aromatherapy Crafts of Los Baños; processed papaya (jam, atchara) by Corazon de Jesus Multi-Purpose Cooperative; fruit preserves and processed food of San Pablo's Escaba); ginger tea (salabat powder)- Nature's Delight Sampaloc, Rizal Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Liliw footwear by Edna's; bags, baskets, and mats made of water lily by Remdavies; bignay tea & other wellness products by C.A. Caisip; and bayong products of the Municipality of Luisiana.

Additional exhibitors and sellers at the mini-trade fair include Ang Tindahan ng Itlog ni Kuya (duck/duck egg products), Annie & Nestor Food Products, Luisiana Weavers, Kalakal Cavinti Souvenir Shop, and Zeny Corcuera Food Products.

Earlier, President Aquino ordered the DTI to organize discount caravans nationwide to give more opportunity to consumers to access basic commodities, medicines and school supplies at lower prices amid increased prices due to developments outside of the country.

Similar caravans have already been done around the country including Lipa City, Sta. Cruz, Laguna, and Carmona and General Trias in Cavite. (CPG/Charlie S. Dajao/DTI Calabarzon/PIA-Laguna)// Arlene P. Mariposque
